I am Gustavo Zuluaga, a Colombian artist born in Tuluá, into the midst of a family of artists. I began painting at the age of 18, moved by a profound need to observe and translate the world around me. However, after migrating to Europe, life led me down different paths; I left art behind for 25 years, dedicating myself to various trades to get by.
It was during the pandemic, whilst watching my daughter paint, that something was rekindled within me. I took up my brushes once more and rediscovered a way of seeing that had never truly disappeared.
Today, I paint in oil on canvas as a way of staying time and observing what often goes unnoticed. My work is born from the everyday: the colours that vibrate on a random street corner, the silent presence of animals, and the simple gestures of daily life. Through every brushstroke, I seek to transform the common into something worthy of contemplation, elevating those small moments and turning them into visual narratives.
My painting is a constant dialogue between reality and emotion, where the simple becomes the protagonist and the habitual reveals its hidden beauty.
